EIAJ's EDA TechnoFair To Undergo Transformation in New Century

The Electronic Design and Solution Fair 2001(eD&S Fair 2001) in Japan will be held in conjunction with ASP-DAC2001. The purpose of the eD&S Fair 2001, sponsored by the Electronic Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ), is to exhibit and promote the latest EDA technologies, System LSIs and Design Service from Japan as well as overseas. Attendees this year will benefit even more due to the combination of ASP-DAC2001, FPGA/PLD Conference and eD&S Fair 2001. Among the unique features of eD&S Fair 2001 will be the University Plaza, in which university research results are presented with the aim of an information exchange with industry engineers.
Until 2000, the EDA TechnoFair of the Electronic Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ) has been held seven times. This event has been Japan's only comprehensive exhibition of design technologies related to electronic equipment and large-scale integrated circuits (LSIs), in addition to electronic design automation (EDA). In 2001, this Fair will be integrated with the FPGA/PLD Design Conference & Exhibit, which has been organized and held by Field Programmable Gate Array/Programmable Logic Device (FPGA/PLD) vendors and university personnel since 1993. Renamed the Electronic Design and Solution Fair, the exhibition will cover not only EDA technologies, but also leading-edge device technologies such as application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and FPGA/PLD, as well as technologies for reusing intellectual property (IP, said to cover circuit-layout rights and such), integrated software technologies and various design services.
At the heart of said technologies is the system LSI or Systems-on-Chip (SoCs). One of the most urgent challenges the industry faces is discovering methods of developing SoCs within a short period of time while maintaining high performance, energy efficiency and low costs. Design and solution technologies in this field are therefore playing a key role in SoC development. At the start of the 21st century, the development of advanced EDA technologies and innovative design systems is being pursued worldwide, with the aim of creating mechanisms that assure ultrahigh-speed circuit operation on a scale of one micron or less.
The mission of the Electronic Design and Solution Fair is to fulfill today's requirements for new solutions by combining advanced technologies, and to contribute to and further promote the development and growth of electronics technologies and related industries. This year's Fair, the first in the 21st century, is to be held under the slogan of "Gathering Design Technologies for Electronics in the New Century," and its scope as a technological exhibition will be expanded.
