Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. and Japan Telecom Co., Ltd. have announced the
joint development of an "advanced telecommunications application platform"
that will be realized over Japan Telecom's next-generation PRISM (Progressive
and Revolutionary Integration on Service Media) network for corporate users.
Oki and Japan Telecom plan to start providing the service from Fall 2001.
This platform will respond to the following customer needs: first is to outsource
the management and operation of corporate telecommunications network to telecommunication
companies instead of handling it within the company; second is to proceed with
IP networking, which will converge both data and voice, without changing the
existing network environment.
